Can I use roofing battens for garden fencing or screening?

Yes, timber battens are incredibly popular for creating modern, slatted garden screens and fencing. Because they are pressure-treated, they are resistant to rot and insect attack. For ground-contact or high-moisture areas, we recommend ensuring the timber is treated to provide the longest possible lifespan against the British weather.

Do I need to treat the cut ends of the timber?

Yes. While our battens are pressure-treated, any time you cut, drill, or notch the wood, you expose the untreated inner core. We strongly recommend applying an end-grain preservative to any cut surfaces to maintain the integrity of the weatherproofing and prevent premature rot.
