Shuttering Plywood

(16 products)

For projects that prioritize utility and strength over a decorative finish, Shuttering Plywood is the industry standard. These durable sheets are primarily engineered for "formwork"—creating the temporary molds used to hold wet concrete while it sets. Constructed from softwood veneers and bonded with weather-resistant glue, they offer a cost-effective, high-grip solution for structural tasks, site hoardings, and sub-flooring where the wood will eventually be covered or used for heavy-duty support.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main purpose of Shuttering Plywood?

Its primary design is for concrete formwork. The face of the board is often left unsanded or "C/C" grade to provide a functional surface that can support the weight of wet concrete until it hardens.

Is Shuttering Plywood waterproof?

It is manufactured using WBP (Weather and Boil Proof) glue, meaning the layers will not delaminate when exposed to moisture. However, because it is a softwood product, it is not "rot-proof." For prolonged outdoor use, it should be treated or painted.

How does shuttering differ from marine or birch plywood?

Unlike Marine or Birch ply, Shuttering Plywood focuses on structural integrity over aesthetics. It may contain knots, surface plugs, or small splits. It is a "utility grade" board meant for strength and economy rather than a fine furniture finish.

Can I use these shuttering ply for flooring?

Yes. Shuttering Plywood is frequently used as a sub-floor or "boarding out" material in lofts and sheds. Its thickness (typically 18mm) provides a sturdy, stable base for carpets, laminate, or vinyl to be laid over the top.

What sizes are available at The Good Sheet?

The standard stock size is 2440mm x 1220mm (8x4), usually available in an 9mm, 11mm and 18mm thickness. Smaller "Handy Board" sizes are also available for those who don't require a full industrial-sized sheet.
