Why is chipboard flooring always Tongue and Groove (T&G)?

The T&G profile allows the boards to interlock on all four sides. This creates a continuous, structural platform where the edges support each other. Without the T&G, the edges of the boards would flex independently under foot, leading to "stepping," squeaking, and eventually damaging your final floor covering.

Do I need to use glue on the joints when installing?

Yes, it is a professional requirement. You should apply a D4-rated waterproof wood glue (or specialised joint adhesive) into the grooves before slotting the boards together. This creates a monolithic, creak-free floor and prevents moisture from seeping through the gaps.

Can I lay Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) directly onto chipboard?

It is generally not recommended. While chipboard is flat, it can have slight height variations at the joints and a "grainy" texture. For the best LVT finish, most manufacturers require you to "overboard" the chipboard with a layer of 5.5mm SP101 Plywood to provide a perfectly smooth, solid surface for the adhesive.
