Yes, provided it is rated for external use. Structural plywood often meets standards like EN636-2S or EN636-3, meaning the glue is moisture-resistant. However, while the glue won't fail, the wood fibers can still weather; for long-term outdoor exposure, the wood should be treated with a preservative or painted to prevent rot.

Does structural plywood warp or twist?

Because it is engineered with cross-laminated layers and high-quality veneers, structural plywood is significantly more stable than solid timber or non-structural boards. While no wood product is 100% immune to extreme moisture, structural grade is designed to maintain its flat profile and "square" shape even under heavy loads.

What do the codes like EN314-2 and EN636 mean?

Is structural plywood environmentally friendly?

Generally, yes. Most structural plywood is sourced from fast-growing plantation timbers like Pine or Eucalyptus. Furthermore, because plywood uses thin veneers of the log, it is a very efficient use of timber with minimal waste compared to milling solid planks.
