Frequently Asked Questions

Should I choose timber or concrete fence posts?

It mostly comes down to aesthetics versus maintenance. Timber posts offer a seamless, natural look that blends with your panels, but they require occasional treatment to prevent rot. Concrete posts are virtually indestructible and won't rot or warp, making them the superior choice for high-wind areas or low-maintenance gardens.

How deep should my fence posts be set into the ground?

The general rule of thumb is that one-third of the post should be underground. For a standard 6ft (1.8m) fence, you should typically use an 8ft (2.4m) post, allowing 2ft (600mm) to be secured in the ground with Postcrete for maximum stability.

Are your wooden fence posts pressure-treated?

Yes. All our timber posts are pressure-treated (Tanalised) with high-quality preservative. This process forces the treatment deep into the wood fibres, providing essential protection against fungal decay, insect attack, and ground-contact rot.

How many bags of Postcrete do I need per post?

For a standard domestic fence post, we usually recommend one to one-and-a-half bags of Postcrete per hole. If you are installing in particularly loose soil or using larger-than-average posts, two bags will ensure a rock-solid foundation.
