Can I paint or finish this hardboard?

Absolutely. The smooth face takes paint very well. For the best results, use a white wood primer or an MDF primer first to seal the surface, as the compressed fibres can be quite absorbent.

What is the texture of this hardboard like?

This is standard hardboard, meaning it has one smooth, glass-like face and one textured "mesh" side. This makes it ideal for applications where only one side is visible, such as drawer bottoms or floor protection.

Does the board need any preparation before installation?

Yes, if you are using it for flooring, it is a professional "pro-tip" to condition the boards. Lightly spray the textured side with water and stack them back-to-back for 24 hours before fixing; this prevents the boards from expanding or buckling once they are installed.
